Matthieu Ferrand
Matthieu Ferrand was born in Clermont-Ferrand, France, in 1989.
When they noticed his appetite for artistic practice, his parents immediately encouraged him to follow his passions, namely the violin and painting.
Luckily, the municipal art workshop in his hometown had an excellent teacher who was able to transmit his passion for painting to him: Frédéric Castaldi.
Very early on, he introduced Matthieu to the joys of academic painting, the study of plaster casts and the living model.
At the age of 18, Matthieu joined the Emile Cohl School in Lyon to perfect his mastery of drawing. These years of study would lead him to a career in the world of publishing and comics for about ten years.
The birth of his two daughters was the event that would push him to reorient his career in 2023 and return to what had always driven him: painting.
Love of nature and the joys of sharing moments with family are among the subjects that Matthieu likes to work on.
He has been teaching and leading drawing and painting workshops since 2014 at the Emile Cohl school, alongside his studio work.
Recently, Matthieu has taken up pastels again in addition to his oil work. Insatiably curious, the alternation of two mediums allows him to explore graphic variations and channel his creative energy.
